Woke up this morning with clear vision. It's AMAZING what luxuries technology can afford nowadays. I was under the "laser" for approx 7 minutes and voila - 20/20 vision. I mean, seriously???!!! I'm not complaining...just dumbfounded at how advanced we've become. I can't even begin to imagine the types of cool stuff that will be at our disposal in 20 or 30 years.

Anyways, I couldn't have been any happier today. It was like I had a permanent smile tattooed on my face. Dr says my eyesight is only going to get better with time. Hallelujah!

Took a bath today...

I feel like my entire life has been a series of building-block moments in time. Each "period" has taught me a lesson, has challenged me as a person, and has defined who I am today.

From an eagle's eye - my whole life though seemingly disjointed...has also been strangely connected. i feel like everything has always "fallen into place" ...despite the ups and downs. i feel like everything in my past was just meant to be and has led me to now....

But in the now, I always find myself thinking about what's next........I wish my mind would stay put sometimes.

Took a bath today, read a book, and decided just to enjoy the book and my bath. I concluded I need to do this more often.

The one who served a purpose

I was in a relationship for 7 years of my younger life. I'm now 3 years into "dating" and quite frankly, it gets harder and harder with every new guy. You begin to realize what you want and more importantly, what you don't want....down to the most minute characteristic. For example, "after Brad, I just can't see myself dating someone who likes country music" or "after Frank, I will never date someone who can't parallel park". And yes, these are definitely excuses but they are things you add to your subconscious, ever-growing checklist of successful, confident, funny, smart, trustworthy, loyal, my best friend, loves dogs, punctual, opens car door, puts the toilet seat down, puts the cap back on toothpaste, and the list gets increasingly more picky...and increasingly more ridiculous.

UNTIL, you meet that one person who changes your mind about it all.

I recently met someone who threw my checklist out the window. And he proved to me that what I've always wanted is actually very simple. Someone who can make you smile and who accepts you for you - the good, the bad, and the ugly. For some reason, we never allow ourselves to justify that simplicity. But...

We all know - when you meet someone who you're just 50/50 about, your mind over-rationalizes why he is or isn't the one....and it's always the littlest, most non-important things that tip the scale towards no.

Then there's that occasion of when you come across someone that just "fits" you. He's not perfect and maybe he's even far from perfect but the chemistry between you is magical. It trumps everything you ever thought you wanted. It's the type of relationship where it's enough just to be with one another, where silence is accepted, where every kiss is like the last, and the memories of days spent together can make you smile on a whim.

Sadly but with no regret, my story doesn't have the fairy tale ending because...well, I'm not with him any longer. But, he did show me that this special chemistry does exist and even after 3 years of dating the wrong guys, you will find the right guy eventually. And you should wait for it...no matter how long it takes because when you find that person, all the prior days your heart spent longing for it will no longer matter and you will find happiness in every moment following.

I look forward to that day because I know it will all be worth it.

When I said I planned to eat my way through my birthday, I meant it. 5 days of non-stop eating. One could argue, I eat too much. "Could argue"......yes, but "one" won't because it's my birthday and I should be able to do whatever I want!

Update: 7/13/2010

As I write this almost 2 years later.....I still love food and I still plan to eat my way through my 28th birthday.....along with my P.I.C and SF Outsidelands. Yay!

Revolve Clothing Grand Opening Party

Revolve Clothing opened their first store on Melrose Avenue on August 21st. Read here for the scoop from the LA Times.

Fashion Friend calls to invite me to a sneak preview. He thinks that the open bar will entice me. Little does he know he sold me when he first spoke the words party and clothes in the same sentence. Although admittedly, I was very happy after 4 Melrose Lime-light cocktails (Absolut Acai/Pomegranate/Blueberry with Sprite and a splash of pineapple juice). Yum-my.

The store is a closet full of sophistication with pricetags ranging from a t-shirt at $59 to a leather jacket at $1500. And if you're a local, you can spy and order clothes online, then try them on at the store the next day. I could probably get used to that.

Back to the party, there were many-a-fashion-goer with an eye-catching heel. In the spirit of being incognito, I refrained from taking pictures. However, as I am somewhat of a paparazzi by LA upbringing, I do regret not snapping pix of all the wonderful shoes trapsing around the store that night.

The LBD was a popular wardrobe choice of the night. As much as I love color, black never seems to fail because of its reputation to be sexy, smart, and slimming. Plus, you get more eyeballs to your 5" Jimmy Choo's or Christian Louboutin's. Sometimes your shoes deserve a little attention.

Overall, it was a good scene with a guest appearance by Gossip Girl, Kristen Bell or maybe better recognized as Veronica Mars or for her role in Forgetting Sarah Marshall.

Tomorrow is my birthday. This year all I plan to do is eat my way through it. Not in any depressive way - I just love food! So I'm planning a little birthday dinner with my east-to-west coast family at Luna Park then a dinner at Mortons on the weekend. They are currently offering a summer special of steak and seafood for 2 at only $99 - so my girl pal and I who share birthdays one day apart are taking advantage. Did I mention that the chocolate cake is included as well?

Also on the menu is girls night out - Crown Bar to start and Kitchen 24 to top off the festivities. My stylista sidekick and I frequent K24 afterhours way too frequently. We go to people watch and for the Garden Benedict (highly recommend). It's a chill hollywood hipster scene with a DJ spinning upbeat tunes.

So, I'd like to order alot of food and love with a side of birthday please?

I like the sound of that.

Sometimes it's hard to put the pen to the paper. The ideas are there. The words are there too. Tangible thoughts, however, the ones that make sense of the words and ideas are harder to transfer from your brain, to your fingers, to a piece of paper. Your mind makes the story sound so compelling yet upon attempts to share it with other human beings, renders itself disjointed. It's just so very complicated. But I'm breaking out and finding inspiration, in no inspiration.

Some days you'll get fashion, other days you'll get style, but most days you'll just get me.

My fashionista friends traveled from the Bay to indulge in a little bit of sample saling, food binging, and girl talking with cocktails to end the night, every night. A weekend of full blown estrogen comes with alot of, "cute dress, love your shoes, where did you get that" exclamations. This time was no different.

Fashion "on"

One wonderful man I need to get into my closet is Christian Louboutin - especially when he's so pretty in pink!

5 inches higher, my girlfriend walked tall wearing these Parisian beauties.

Next, came the leading lady of the night, Dianne Von Furstenberg.
I've been loving rompers lately - especially when they come silky, bold, and steller like this one. Right off the rack of Barney's Co-op, she confidently debuted in a bar on the westside the very same day she was delicately wrapped in tissue paper and taken home.

All the way from Shanghai, came my dress. Like painted art meant for a museum but instead picturesquely draped on my body with a belt to cinch the waist. A foreigner perhaps but no stranger to LA's catwalk - speaking a universal language...that is style.

From a sidewalk vendor to runway status. Talk about working your way up in the world!

The day after we find comfort in flats and big sunglasses to mask a night of martini's. I heart heel-less shoes.

It's no longer taboo to wear flat shoes - especially when they're bejeweled and fun.

So to end my GWO (girl's weekend out) -- It definitely includes alot of fashion exchange but it's also just pretty cool to sprawl out on my bed on a lazy sunday and talk about all things "girl" and boys, wouldn't you like to know?

Change

I added blonde streaks. Cut 5 inches too. Bought a new dress to compliment the hair. Change -- we all need it. It's what keeps us on our toes, interested, and alive. But, what are our expectations of change?

In the past few days, I've felt both the pain and enlightenment of change. The news that a guy you once dated is now dating someone else. It hurts when the news first hits but then you shake it off because ...it just wasn't meant to be. And in time, you'll know exactly why when you allow the truth to settle in.

Some things are not just meant to be. Friendships for example. I've held on to some that I probably shouldn't have. At this point in my life, I barely have enough time to focus on the friendships that deserve it. And I want to focus on the ones that deserve it. Why repair what will always be broken.

In friendship and in love, I've learned in my line of work that the feeling of hope is powerful. At the eleventh hour when all's in despair, you can only look forward to a change that's good....and it keeps all of us living because the idea is, somewhere out there, something better does exist and what can we do but hope that we'll get there. Though, I do agree with Oprah when she says that we all have to pave our own way. Nothing is going to get handed to you on a silver platter. You'll spend all your time waiting if you think so.

Find harmony between reality and hope. Shed some positive light on every challenge you meet. The rough around the edges will eventually smooth out. And believe that the future holds change thats good and all you have to do is reach out and grab it.

What added to my depression is that I would eat atrocious amounts of food - and not just the occasional fast food either. Every night, my dinner of choice was either McDonalds, Burger King, or Jack in the Box - even the healthiest of fast food aka In & Out wasn't in the mix. The guilt didn't kick in until a month later when I couldn't fit into my jeans. I was utterly sickened! I really couldn't attribute my weight gain to turning quarter-century, or that my body was gearing up for child-birth. The brutal reality? I'm just not healthy. Period.

Anywho, everyone has resolutions to get fit in 2008 but along with my newfound perspective on fashion and spending, I also have a new perspective on loving the ME underneath my clothes.

Fabulous clothes can do a fabulous job of covering up but I'm motivated to work from the inside, out moving into the new year.

First, I started with vitamins. For those who eat like shit (present company included), you need to supplement your diet with vitamins. Made a trip to GNC, picked up a multi-vitamin, and voila, I rid myself of the daily lethargy (can really put a damper on things). Not to say, you should turn to poppin pills to solve everything. It just works as a supplement to a GOOD diet.

Second, I got into something my co-worker tells me is "active sitting." Sitting on a stability ball 8 hours a day can do wonders on your abs. If you sit in front of a computer all day like I do, then I highly recommend you get one. Great for your posture too.

Third, I buckled down and joined the gym. I am now a proud member of 24 Hour Fitness. Except, the one on Wilshire closest to my house kind of sucks. I'll make it a point to hit up the Pasadena one after work. Yippee.

Finally, I am bent on sticking to this plan. I don't want to be the one a few years down the line trying to work backwards. I want to be in a constant state of good health, positive thinking, and just loving the skin that i'm in!

For awhile, it was all about the fashion and how to get it – how to afford it never crossed my mind. The next thing after a big hit was what my next big hit was going to be. Of course, the obsessive need for glamour and fancy duds also came with its slew of bills. With no disposable income at my disposal, I carried a wallet stuffed with receipts but no cash. What was once glee and inspiration turned into feelings of bitterness and regret. Afterall, what was I to do with a closet full of designer shoes? I needed a savings account. Depressing? Yes. Pathetic? Very.

I had to turn my head away from temptation and had to feign excitement when my friends made new purchases and I was still wearing clothes from seasons past and my over-worn Balenciaga motorcycle purse, which was looking a tad homely – but just go with it when I call it vintage, ok? I was in need of serious rehab. Thankfully, I found comfort in boys and booze, both my anti-drugs. I learned how to be creative with my options. I learned to take a closet full of old and turn it into something new every day by just mixing and matching, staying simple, and accessorizing. I window shopped at Beverley Hills and flipped through pages of fashion mags, only to make my way to F21 in search of the perfect knockoff. Bless you F21.

Month’s later, recovery is imminent. It’s been a long and hard struggle but thank you all for the support.

ode to the fashionista

What started as, “I’ll do it tomorrow” turned into “I’ll do it after it quiets down at work” turned into “I’ll do it after I move.” 4 months later and I’m sitting here finally ready and I'm thinking maybe it’s time to start again. I wouldn’t have been so compelled if it weren’t for the inspiration of my dear friend, who injects fashion into my soul every day.

The wooden soles of her Chloe platforms step all around me. I enviously peer at them out of the corner of my eye. She says they’re resale, can you believe it? Great price. She’s had the wood finished like an antique masterpiece; the color almost close enough to match the soft leather that covers her toes and wraps around her ankles.

When in an interview, she presents herself in a Jackie-O inspired jacket, an over-sized Marc Jacobs tote on her shoulder, a pair of Manolo Blahniks on her feet – and confidence that no Armani suit could ever command.

I admire her, her devotion to fashion, her ability to match simplicity with style, and her way of making anything look expensive.

And fashion does unite. I shared her pain when she found that her Stella McCartney shoes were too small, after waiting months for the boutique to receive more sizes -- only to then find, the size she needed was on hold for someone else.

We relished in delight when we discovered an identical version of DVF and Marc Jacobs at Forever21 for under $25.

And we both know that style can be inexpensive, fashion can be intelligent, and every woman deserves to have a closet just for shoes.

This post may be first of many, or just one of few but this one is for diabolina. My fashionista and friend.

Rolled up to the W Hotel this weekend to check out the Diane vonFurstenberg sale. Purposely gave myself ample time in the morning to get ready – 1) to avoid the crowd and 2) to avoid a few hundred dollar charge on my credit card statement next month. At 1pm, they had completely cleaned out one room of DVF. Down to only 1, there were about 10 racks left to pick from – most of it being your classic wrap dresses of various prints and colors.

Two things immediately caught my eye, and apparently everyone else’s too. I engaged in a quick push and shove to find my size (jk) and victory! – a lone size X just waiting to be tried on. It now hangs, my very first DVF piece, happily in my closet. Next step? To find a hot date to take me on a hot date. ;)

It’s in the same family as the ivory dress pictured below but in tube style with ruching up top and a black sash under the bust. It’s the epitome of girly pleasure and cuteness.

quicktip: OIL begone

It happens in slow motion. Like when you're eating a salad and that cherry tomato drenched in delicious oil and herbs flicks off your fork and lands on your thigh, just right after traveling down the bottom of your shirt. And the result? A masterpiece of drizzle and splat. I worry about looking sloppy, a bit. But the anxiety of stain removal is worse. And I worry about that more. It usually happens to a shirt you bought the other day. First time wearing it, loving it, looking hot in it -- then disaster strikes and you're looking up to the clouds asking why? Alright alright - a little drama queen never hurt anyone.

My aunt is a genius. She has a fix for everything. I was moping around about a shirt I so clumsily ruined with my curry chicken and she came to the rescue. She said, "rub baby powder into the stain and throw it in the wash."

To my surprise, it worked. Since then, baby powder has been the miracle oil stain remover. The powder soaks up the oil and the wash is the final step so you don't go walking around like you were in a bakery kitchen.

If you have no baby powder, hairspray works too - although, i've always looked to the powder first. Good luck....and try it with confidence - I promise it will save you many a shirt.

My neighbor at work is a fashionista. We talk fashion. We love fashion. Fashion on a dime? Perfect. Why? Because really, it's about how you wear it and the attitude behind it that can make it look expensive. No one has to know except you & the shirt & maybe those select few who think like you do.

So she walked in and said, guess where? Looks like Marc. Nope. It's shhh....forever 21.

Amazing.

Don't wear it as if it only cost you $20 bucks. Wear as if it were couture. A lesson learned from my neighbor, my fashionista, and my inspiration.

I'll certainly drink to that. ;)

Getting High

At the moment, I feel the same way about high-waist jeans as I did skinny jeans the first time they were reintroduced. It took me about 3 tiers of skinny jeans to get to the cigarette style I know and love today – yes, the ones that are practically painted to my skin and take about 10 minutes to pull past my ankles. Sigh, the things we do for fashion.

Like skinny jeans, it takes a certain body type to pull off the high-waisted style. They look phenomenal on Kate Moss, but of course, she’s a twig. The mental transition from low risers to high risers is going to take some time. I mean, I haven’t had pants reach near my belly button in years! I have to try it on, wear it around, and see how I feel in it – then maybe reach a point where I’ll like it. Not all trends are for everyone – if it doesn’t work for me, no biggie. They’ll always be another fad to indulge in. Jbrand (left) began with skinnies, then came out with the wide-legs, and is now into the high-waist denim. Flat knee-high boots by Delman. Available at Neiman Marcus. On sale for $225 (leather)/ $198 (suede). Girlfriends bombarded me with IMs of "should I get, what color should I get?" I fancy flat but oh-so-tall boots. I suggested Brown at first. But, Black leather is hot too.

Help me so maybe I can help them?

Big Rings

One day, I’ll get my 3 carat ring. I must be dreaming! One day, maybe in my next life. In the meantime, I can still rock the bling and wave my hands with pride, even if it’s just a $6 H&M sparkler weighing down my fingers. Though I love my David Yurman onyx cocktail ring, the one dressed with glittering diamonds, oh yes, that one. ;) -- it carries with it some bittersweet emotions. I wear it sparingly -- plus I’d be devastated if I left it in the girl’s room absentmindedly. And I would do something like that.

So, I’d much prefer the less than $20 costume accessories; at the moment, rings to be specific – though it would be silly of me to refuse the real thing. I’m talking big jewels and rocks encased by metal or flower petals carrying over your ring and pointer finger – and maybe even funky plastics in polka-dot and leapord. All of abstract shapes and colors, of course. Doesn't a luscious strawberry with gold seeds sound delicious?

Where to find? I scouted some at H&M. Intermix has some but pricey. Kenneth Jay Lane, of course, does not cease to disappoint. All the ones pictured above, Rachel Leigh, Lee Angel, Kenneth Jay Lane, and SuRevolution are all around $80.

Madonna for H&M

The M by Madonna line for H&M was set to debut March 2007 all around the world. In stores, Thursday, March 22nd – I made a trip to Old Town in Pasadena to take a peek that very Saturday. The style of the collection is classy & sophisticated with primarily black and white donning both casual and dressy pieces. While you get the look of Madonna, I wasn't entirely impressed with the feel. The material of the dresses was sub par and to be brutally honest, it felt like something I could buy for $20 on Melrose. But in all fairness, I could only stand being in the store for about 15 minutes before I wanted to escape the masses.

It also wasn't long before my eyes were stuck to something cute. I saw black and I saw patent all over a long leather clutch and soon after, I was carrying it out the store. I'd be searching far and wide for a cute clutch to hold my evening essentials. The clutch also comes in white patent and is part of the M by Madonna line and there's no indication of brand until you look inside. I love so much!

I finally made it to the Voom boutique on Melrose this past weekend and fell in love so many times. One piece that particularly struck my heart was Voom's cap sleeved trench coat - not just because Eva Longoria looks hot in it but because it's utterly adorable on it's own. It's atypical of Joy Han's usual line of printed silk frocks - which in my mind is like signature Voom but I am happy to see her line get more flavorful - more creativity to love and admire.

My other Voom favorites? Definitely the kimono and tube dress. Katherine Heigl modeled, quite beautifully, on the red carpet the kimono dress back in September for Janet Jackson's cd launch party at Tao.

Is it that simple? Even if it is, there are always excuses to make things easier. Like for example, skincare brushes designed to cleanse and exfoliate your face.

I thought about getting the Clarisonic skincare brush but opted to buy shoes instead. In my mind, cotton pads, cleansing milk and a bit of committment and technique work just as well.

But for $14.99 (compared to the $200 for the Clarisonic brush), the Dove SkinVitalizer is worth a try. I've been testing it for a week and so far so good. The cleansing pillows easily attach with the help of some velcro action - the textured side for gentle exfoliation and the other for a lathered face wash. After a rinse, it leaves your skin feeling surprisingly soft.

I Love Rachel Pally

Every season I tell myself that I can't fill my closet with any more Rachel Pally but every season surpasses the next - so how can I help myself? I am a basics girl. I like pieces that I can swap and mix easily from one outfit to the next. I remember the time when I used to buy over-the -top but just absolutely gorgeous pieces thinking I would wear it more than two times. The novelty wears off quickly and suddenly, it no longer gives you the same "new" feeling as it use to. If you do the math - $300 top with 2 wears = $150/wear. Yikes! Quite frankly, I would be needing to make more money to enjoy that luxury. The only exception is shoes. ;)

Oh, but Rachel's stuff is great. The fabric is so soft against your skin and so fluid on your body. Since her debut, each subsequent season has encompassed more detail and creativity - whether it be pintucks, buttons, or folds. Still has the same look and feel of Rachel Pally but with more pizazz.

Speaking of warm weather shoes, how cute are these? My girl friends are seriously the devils on my shoulder. Every minute I get links to check out the cute stuff they come across. I love going into new seasons - so many pretty things to look at!

You can find the patent Ali thong sandals here. At $195, they're the same price as the Tory Burch Revas! And also like the Revas, they come in various colors. In patent, you can get them in either white or black. In metallics -- silver and gold.

We'd all like to think warm weather is upon us and really, it almost is *wishful thinking* -- but even so, it's not too early to think about shoes you can wear for warm weather right?

In every designer collection, you seem to be seeing at least one pair of peeptoe flats and how ingenious of them to bring this style back. I, for one, would prefer to wear flat shoes anyday - especially since my afternoon walks at lunch make up the crux of my exercise regimen.

Homemade Remedies

Lately, everything I've been wanting to share has been about skincare and beauty. I guess, I'm at the age now where my skin is of more interest to me. I say interest because worry implies I haven't been taking care of it. And yes, I am in denial. But you're talking to a caffiene junkie (dehydrated skin), workaholic, party girl (tired skin) and did I mention sun worshipper (wrinkley skin)? That one bottle of Smart Water a day isn't helping, nor is it making me any smarter. ;)

Through the years, I've extracted bountiful tips and advice - including some homemade remedies - from my aestheticians, from elderly women (they've been there, done that), from magazines, and from word of mouth. Jeez, I wish I could remember all of them but I'll start with the few I can remember. Collectively, maybe we can narrow the list down to the ones that really work - so, I'll need your help. Sharing is caring and we all know we don't learn this stuff by osmosis.

Skin Purifier
Fresh lemon juice and a dash of baking soda
Helps to reduce acne.
Supposedly, all acne formula contains the two. Although im not sure which one of the 'trates and 'ides is lemon and baking soda. Hrm.

Best moisturizer for dehydrated skin
Aloe Vera
If you have dehydrated skin, you're best bet is to tackle with water. So drink tons of water and use a water based moisturizer. I am currently trying this one out and will let you know how it works but so far so good. Trader Joes sells 100% aloe vera for like $3.00!

Treating yourself inside out
Diet & Exercise
We all know this is an obvious one but diet is the first thing to good skin. Chamomile, green, and various herbal teas are great for energy and keeping your zen in a good state. Yoga is great for blood circulation. The more condition your body, the nicer it will be to you in the future. Remember my post about facial massages? Lastly, drink water...if you drink alot of coffee and redbull as I do - than you're in trouble. Just kidding. I do try to balance everything with tons of water....and an iced water with lemon is so good!

Magic Stick

Being a creature of habit, it takes a little something to get me to try something new. For years now, I've been using Mac's ProLash for mascara despite the marvelous things I've heard Trish McEvoy, Dior, Lancome, Jan Marini etc. can do. I mean, I did try the extensions for awhile but failed miserably at maintaining them. I'll stick to applying fake lashes on the weekends if I must. It's not so bad.

But when something impresses you the first time you try it - it makes everything pale in comparison, well at least Mac's ProLash.

I think the secret to Katie B's Faux Lash mascara is the cone shaped brush which separates your lashes down to the layers. Then the mascara steps in to thicken and lengthen. It's like giving the sly illusion of donning fake lashes w/ no messy glue or precision needed to apply.

Katie B is a makeup artist with an entire line of cosmetics. I can only speak for the quality of the mascara, so if you'd like to learn more, please visit her online store. It may not be Best of Sephora for 2006, but it works! Though her credentials are pretty solid. Her makeup is currently being used to glam the models of FHM, Maxim, Stuff and Playboy.

Boutique Hopping

Since I've been here, I've done my fair share of shopping. It's tough though because back home I normally shop in pairs. So naturally - sans my friend's honest opinions - I don't really jump on the opportunity to shop in my spare time (though, admittedly, it's easier on the pockets). Not to mention, the internet has made it easier to "window shop" but sitting in your pjs at home. I know I surf Shopbop , Revolve Clothing , Saks.com, etc. on a nightly basis.

But with Veronica in town, I was obliged to bring her around but thankfully so. First, we hit up Melrose and did the Fred Segal thing and walked across the street to Madison. Madison, by far, is one of my most favorite boutiques. I love their selection of clothes and there's such an eclectic mix of the basics, the trendy, and the dressier pieces with designers like Hip Adventures, Mason, Society for Retired Dress, Young, Fabulous, and Broke, Daftbird, T-bags, and Alvin Valley . They happened to be having sale on Saturday and I picked up a cute summer dress by Tart for $72, regular price $188. There's less of a "Robertson attitude" like when you're at Kitson or Lisa Kline (although, Lisa Kline has some fabulous stuff).

Afterwards, we made our way to W 3rd street, where we visited Satine. Satine wasn't what I expected since I was so used to browsing their online store. The collection is definitely on the higher end of the price scale and the store, small -- but clothing speaks for itself - very chic and elegant pieces decorating hangers. Everything was very well put together and easy to peruse. As a shopper, I hate sifting through racks that are jam packed with clothes. One inch between hangers is a good rule of thumb. Can you tell I've worked retail before?

Next, we stepped into Milk. Now, Milk was having an insane storewide sale where everything was marked down beginning at 50% to 90% off. I so desperately wanted to buy the McQ sweater/shirt that Jessica Simpson sported but couldn't find one in my size. I was also eyeing an adorable navy blue short-sleeved sweater dress by Twelfth Street by Cynthia Vincent but again, no size. Despite my attempts and subsequent failures at finding my size, it seemed other people were having sublime luck. Amongst the other labels were Johnson, Karoo, and Manoush.

Our last stop was Scout. It was refreshing to see two male salespersons running the store but perhaps that's the reason for its name. By this time, both Veronica and I were running on fumes but I definitely liked the vibe of the store. The atmosphere was much different than the others - almost cold & futuristic, the coloring inside mostly grays and blacks - but not in a bad way. Some labels I remember seeing were Society for Rational Dress and Mike & Chris and I hope I'm correct in saying that Scout has their own line too - with some cute tops I might add. In the end, I left with a good impression. It didn't hurt either that the saleperson (handsome and charming) complimented my outfit. ;)

Well, if you haven't been, I would encourage you to make an attempt to visit either Madison, Milk, Satine, or Scout - especially soon so you don't miss out on the sales!

As promised, here is the first of the "coming soon". A girlfriend was in town this weekend, so we did what girls do best - spoil ourselves! For food, it was Toast on 3rd, Chocolat on Melrose, Ivy on Robertson, and Crustacean on Bedford - not to mention Jerry's Famous Deli for late night! It was gluttonous.

And shopping. Every boutique was cleaning house this past weekend. Milk was having a storewide sale where everything was up to 90% off. I managed to pick up the cutest jersey dress by Tart at Madison on Melrose for more than 50% off. A report of all the boutiques visited....tomorrow. ;)

But now to the real review. Aroma Spa located in Korea Town is certainly not a hole in the wall but also not widely known to anyone outside of Ktown. They offer a wide menu of treatments and all reasonably priced. Veronica, my guest and also the one who recommended the spa decided to go with the Korean Body Scrub, which by the way, for $30 will get you to babysoft skin.

My pick? I was in need of a facial, so I scheduled myself the Deluxe European. Started off with a shoulder and neck massage. All the ingredients used in the treatments were 100% natural, beginning with a cleansing with lemon juice and baking soda, a facial massage using aloe, a lip moisturizer of jojoba oil, foot therapy containing paraphin, and facial mask of pure ground mint.
Can I just say, wonderous?

Be forewarned, the facial massage can be awakening for first timers. The strength of your facial muscles control if and when you get wrinkles. Your muscles will weaken with age but you can maintain with exercise - so it's recommended to massage your face every morning while you cleanse to get the muscles moving. It also helps to loosen up your pores to allow the impurities to lift. So for about 15 minutes, your face is in a personal training session with a sargeant who is pushing your face to work harder and harder. Sounds tough....but so worth it. Makes the extraction process much less painful.

Best part about it though is that for a service of $90+, you can use their facilities for free. They have gym, jacuzzi, and 3 different types of saunas. Lots and lots of naked women but we're all women so there's really nothing to be shy about.

Best, best part about it is that it's open late for appointments only, which is great for me because I work late...and could always use a dip in the jacuzzi and a massage afterhours on weekdays.

It was hard enough finding the right hair stylist, aesthetician, nail salon, etc in Boston. So, as you can imagine, I dreaded the arduous process of finding the aforementioned in a city such as LA, which is 10 times the size. Citysearch and LA.com can only do so much. It's trial and error and word of mouth that help to reveal the secrets.

Personally, I can pass on the posh salons that charge ridiculous prices for novelties such as bottled water or champagne while you wait for an eyebrow wax. Nice but... I hate feeling like I have to dress up and put a face on before going to a salon. It's an oximoron to me. I don't mind doing the Beverly Hills every so often with a girlfriend but the occasion would have to call for it.

I try to get my nails done about twice a month and I drove up and down Ventura blvd for awhile trying to find that salon. I came across Studio Nail Spa. Clean is important and this place looked clean and fairly busy so I decided to give it a shot. It was a very good first impression. Three months and 6 visits later and I still have no regrets!

My favorite is the hand and foot massage. Susan, the nail technician I see, is so attentive and she spends at least 10 minutes massaging your hands and feet. Your hands get the hot lotion treatment, which is absolutely divine.

I've been to a few nail salons since - not by choice - but because of time constraints and none have surpassed Studio Nail Spa.

The Salon itself isn't particularly fancy but it's equipped with everything necessary. The spa chairs are fairly new and operate well. I want to say there are about 8 or 9 of them so you never really have to wait long if you're doing both the hands and feet, although I do recommend making an appointment anyways because really - who likes to wait at all.

I was in getting my nails done this weekend and to my surprise, I see Ashlee Simpson and her entourage getting their nails all colored up - most likely getting glammed for a pre-grammys party!

Of course I had to steal a glance at her outfit. She was wearing a blue headband and grey v-neck sweater. I need a bag and jean ID but maybe you guys can help to fill in the blanks.

The bag was a beautiful brown tote, short handles, large and shaped like the YSL muse. It was textured, almost like a Kroell.

Her jeans were a dark blue skinny. The defining characteristic? The yellow V's/zig-zags emblazoned to the back pockets. They weren't Seven jeans though. Hmm...

Everyone knows that I love big totes. I hate that you lose everything in them but it seems that I never have enough hands - especially in the mornings when you're trying to multi-task. For example, flip-flops under you arm for after work, bag on your arm, redbull in hand, trash in the other....all while you're fumbling for your keys to lock the door and get into your car.

They say three's a charm. You have 1) the Stephen bag, designed by 2) Marc Jacobs for 3) Louis Vuitton. And indeed, the combination is quite the ménage à trois. A girlfriend of mine has been eyeing this bag for awhile and I don't blame her. It's like a high-powered stam bag and that description barely does it much justice. It's very city girl and utilitarian with it's messenger bag type functionality. The shoulder strap to my Balenciaga motorcycle which I once thought was just a pretty accessory has proven very useful.

And of course, Jessica Simpson seen toting it around doesn't hurt it's image much either - since she seems to wear everything so well!

Twin Turbo 2800

My pick for the salon hair dryer. I've heard good things about the T3 hair appliances but to tell you the truth, who wants to spend $200 on a hairdryer.

Retail, I've seen the twin turbo go for $200 but I recently purchased mine on Metro Beauty for $87. The site also offers free shipping through FedEx on orders over $75!

It's highpowered and fairly light. I've been using it for 4 years and only this year did I have to replace it (and only because it fell from my counter to the tile floor of my bathroom).

Once you switch to a salon hairdryer, you can't go back. You get the results you want, quicker with something that has more oomph to it.

I love Grey's Anatomy - on screen and off! The cast including Kate Walsh, TJ Wright, Katherine Heigl, Patrick Dempsy, Sandra Oh, and Ellen Pompeo looked so glam on the red carpet.

Kate Walsh looked the most stunning. Her hair and lips just contrasted so well with her chiffon Kevan Hall sheath (yellow is, by the way, the color for Spring). Heigl was a close runner up, looking absolutely vixen in red.

And slightly off topic, I have to add that Tony Parker and soon to be Eva Longoria-Parker (in lovely Vera Wang) are going to be the hottest married couple in Hollywood. They look so in love and are just physically - super gorgeous. I feel optimistic about this union. What do you think? =)

The Pocket Dress

Pockets keep your hands warm. They keep your lipgloss and Amex close but within easy reach when you're dancing at the club. Hands tucked in implies a certain coyness and slight innocence. It used to be that pockets were a must on hoodies or dressing your behind, but lately I've been seeing more pockets being sewn on the front of dresses.

I want to say it began with the emergence of the jumper. Pockets add a school girl quality to even the most provocative outfit. Slip on a deep-v with deep pockets like this Young, Fabulous, & Broke dress (left) or Rachel Pally's pocket dress (below) - my favorite pockets!

Brightly Colored Accessories
For a girl who wears mostly black, I do celebrate color. It's all about accessorizing your wardrobe. I love spicing up my outfits with a jazzy pair of shoes or a brightly colored handbag/clutch. That way your closet stays classic and your accessories, recyclable. Who says you can't dust off your Gucci shoes from 5 years ago? Call it vintage & wear with pride.

Day Clutches
I've always loved the look of clutches but I'm just the type of girl who carries alot of miscellaneous junk in her purse, which is probably why I only own two. I've noticed recently that clutches have evolved to be more practical - meaning, you can contain more things or maybe it's just fashion saying, bigger is better. So basically, it's ok to hold the size of what you would normally carry on your arm, in the palm of your hand. Sweet!

Wide Leg Jeans
I tried this one the last time around but it just didn't flatter me the way it did others. But this is certainly a statement in the current fad of skinny, skinny, skinny everything. Just like Vogue says in Feb's issue featuring Renee Zellweger -- "Lean and Mean - The most modern trouser silhouette is strong and skinny." I want to be a pencil, please?

Remember Alexis Bittar's widely popular lucite bangles (as worn by the lovely Jessica Simpson)? Yup, back again.

Yellow and Cobalt
The alias for electric blue is cobalt. Complimentary colors always work well with and against each other.

Rosettes
It takes a certain style to pull this off but a good look for a dinner or night out.

Silver
Supposedly the "metallic shade" of the season. In my opinion, it's fresher on the eye. Gold at one point to me was tacky just like silver translated into cheap. Gold today connotes feelings of royalty, warmth, and richness. Nonetheless, silver will break the monotony of it for the time being.

Cut Out Wedges
I totally just want to sprinkle salt around this one.

Wide Trousers
Now, there is a difference between wide jeans and trousers. Maybe because trousers look really good wide and fitted. You don't feel as weighed down like with denim. There's just more fluidity. Plus, you can wear it out or in the office. I'm all for the multi-purpose wardrobe.

Chanel's New Black

It was the perfect stocking stuffer this year. I was lucky to grab a few at the Macy's in Sherman Oaks before Christmas. Chanel's Noir Ceramic #337 is the new Black Satin for Spring 2007.

This season's shade is eliciting the same reaction from consumers as Black Satin. The demand is significantly higher than the supply & we're talking about nailpolish. It's marketing genius!

Since I missed out on Black Satin, I was watchful of Chanel's spring release. So yes, I did fall victim to the craze but with much pleasure! Noir Ceramic has a sheen to it unlike Black Satin resulting in a more vibrant color. Some blacks just get dull after a few days. You can, however, avoid it by applying a topcoat every so often.

I'm making a visit to the nail salon again this weekend. Can't wait!

How do you plan to kick off the new year? Remember, the resolutions don't kick in until the 1st so on the 31st, you can live it up however you wish. I envision my NYE outfit to be a little black number. And I think I found just the one at Zara today. It's a very slim fitting black tube dress with subtle silver threads interweaved throughout. Saw alot of satin, glitter, and bows on the hangers. All the retailers are trying to capitalize on and sell the "holiday look". I wasn't so impressed this year. Of course, I'm down to the wire in trying to find that perfect outfit.

I don't have an outfit or a place to go yet but if you're going to be in the LA area, Carmen Electra is throwing a New Years Eve party at the Paramount Pictures Studio. The Killers will be playing live!! They play in my car all the time too. =)

Hardball Productions in association with Flaunt Magazine are pleased to announce their second annual New Year's Eve Bash to be held at the world famous Paramount Pictures Studio Lot in the heart of Hollywood. Let me introduce you to Tim Ou. He's the apprentice to Raul, the head stylist and part owner of Fred Segal Salon, which means he's is privy to styling techniques that take years to innovate and perfect. Basically, he ain't learning the textbook way to cut hair. Raul was in all the hair styling action of LA Fashion Week and both he and Tim were featured on Dr. Phil this season for a makeover session.

Tim is available for appointments three days a week and can be made by e-mailing timou@yahoo.com. & let him know where you came from with a mention of this post. Book early! He accepts tips only. Just in time for the holidays. I like stockings - ones with goodies stuffed inside and ones you slip on. It can get pretty darn chilly in Los Angeles, so while your body is wearing that cute dress, your legs should be wearing something too. What better to cover them with than tights? I have all sorts -- sheer black, sheer brown and patterned, solid argyled wool and ankle tights. So far, I've stuck to mostly neutral colors. I'm still a Bostonian at heart so I haven't grown the courage to wear brightly colored tights - even though I see others pull it off really well.

Today, I wore my Rachel Pally charcoal scoop bubble dress with a pair of black tights and satin ballerina flats. :)

Ok, so haven't we all thought about how to get the Tory Burch Revas at a discounted price? Bloomingdale's private started today and ends Saturday, December 2nd. What does this mean? If you buy 2 or more regularly priced shoes, you get 25% off your entire purchase. On top of that, if you have a Bloomies charge card, you get coupons that grant you $25 off every $100 spent. Let's do the math shall we? $195 with 25% off minus $25 equals $121.25! If I hadn't bought mine already, I would have so taken advantage. Thankfully, my friends were able to cash in on the deal. The secret is to find a friend who is also willing to buy a pair of shoes. That way, you won't get suckered into buying 2 - well, unless you want to of course. =)

Check your nearest Bloomingdales for available stock. If they don't have it & if you have the patience to look around, ask the sales representative to do an item locator. Usually major cities are your best bet. New York 59th Street always seems to have more inventory. Good luck!

First day at work with my lashes and I kid you not, at least 5 people exclaimed how different I looked today. One person asked if I was wearing make up. I didn't know how to answer that since I do wear make up every day but ...I guess I'll take it as a compliment. One person even asked if I was in love! How funny!

I'll let my curious audience guess but I won't tell - just like you can't tell people you get Botox or plastic surgery.

If you're looking to get extensions, I'd suggest going to a Shavasana certified beauty professional. You can find a listing of professionals near you on their Web site. It's important to go to a certified extensionist. Believe it or not, some beauticians aren't even licensed to apply lashes! Shavasana lashes can only be applied by a licensed or medical professional - so, rest assured, they've had proper training.

Boot Talk

After all this talk about boots and which pair, which style to choose - I finally sealed the deal. The Steve Madden Heidii's are a compromise of style and pricing. Eyelash Extensions

Feels good to be back in Boston. Flew home for the weekend to celebrate Thanksgiving and to see all my friends and family. But of course, what is a weekend trip without shopping? Did my usual drop by at Saks Fifth Avenue on Friday morning. If you're from Boston, you'll notice that the store is doing some heavy renovations. Speaking of renovations, the Bloomingdales in Chesnut hill opened at its new location a month ago and it's ginormous! It's worth stopping by if you haven't seen it yet.

Anyhow, after months of wanting eyelash extensions (& thanks to a tip from my cousin California Style), I got them done! I have to say, I'm impressed with what a difference it makes. I love how it opens your eyes! It took about an hour for the initial application and it's completely painless. Once they're applied, you have to be careful not to rub or use oil-based products (oil loosens the adhesive causing your lashes to come off). It's fun to try and now I can put my eyelash curler and mascara to rest. For maintenance, you just need to make monthly visits for refills. After a few months of wear, it's recommended that you take off your lashes (with baby oil - don't pull!) to let them breathe. It's like acrylic nails. Every now again, it's only healthy to go natural.

If you are adamant against getting false lashes, there are other options - Jan Marini's age intervention eyelash is the next big thing in eyelash technology. It's a treatment that helps to thicken and lengthen your real lashes.

Ahh, if only I had pockets deep enough to afford these Chloe Silverados. If you do, by all means check out them out at Net-A-Porter but they're almost all sold out - even at $1,155!

Saks Thanksgiving Holiday Sale

Drum roll please. Black Friday is the craziest shopping day of the year. Sales everywhere. People reaching over and pushing into you to get the last X,Y, and Z. Just nuts!

Black Friday for me is just Saks Fifth Avenue. It's a yearly tradition - to be at the doors of Saks Fifth Avenue at 8:00 a.m the day after Thanksgiving. From 8am - 12pm - it's 40% off sale rack upon sale rack and 40% off selected full price merchandise. Last year, that included some Vince and Marc Jacobs.

Curious to see what the perk was this year, I gave Saks a call (partly because I need to validate why I wake up so early to go shopping). Twice, I was given the answer - "We won't know what the sale will be until Friday morning." I'm thinking, what's going to be my motivation this year?

I know the answer. I deduce that since it's such a big secret - then it must be something really worth going to. What do you think?

Hair Do's

Enter Fred Segal Salon. Exit Marvelous Hair. I needed a new stylist and I found one - thanks to my lovely roommate for sharing her trade secret.

For years, I couldn't get away from the same straight and layered cut - most of you are familiar with the Jennifer Aniston hair. Indeed, that was me.

So, I knew my next stylist would be confronted with a challenge of sorts. I didn't want "different" to be long hair to boy cut or black to blonde - but rather, a noticeable change in how my hair falls, the volume, and bounce. I swear, there's a true science to it.

I told him my story, my wants, my needs. He sat me down, studied my hair for a moment, and laid it out. He was going to add volume to my hair by cutting short top layers. He was going to keep the length but make my bottom layer almost wispy so that I could easily curl or flip. Best of all, he assured me that upkeep would be minimal meaning, it would be totally low maintenance. (Afterall, I only have 10 minutes to spare for styling in the morning before scrambling to work).

Cut, cut, chop, chop.....blowdry, tease, and curl....yes, he taught me all those techniques and I was utterly amazed. A+ for a first impression (not me, but for my hair and for him too).

I went back the next week for highlights and oddly enough, it is almost identical to Nicole Ritchie's new hair...a picture I came across today. Very subtle highlights....but enough to make a difference.
